Maria Montessori believed that music should be completely integrated into the classroom and that children should have spontaneous musical experiences in the classroom. She recognized there were many areas of music study and designed a musical curriculum which includes creative movement, singing, listening exercises, as well as an understanding of written musical symbols.
For the primary teacher who works with children ages 2.5 through 6, the Montessori teacher and staff are meant to model musical behavior as normal behavior. Montessori felt strongly that children should not be taught to associate music making with only one specialist and only at a special time, but that the child should associate music making as a natural part of the Montessori environment. Unfortunately, many of the materials she designed for her music program are not published or included in a typical Montessori teacher's training.
Harmony Makers can design a custom program to build the classroom teacher's musical knowledge and confidence. The teacher can then create an enriching and enjoyable musical classroom environment for both staff and students by using either the Montessori music materials or the Music Together® Licensed Preschool Program.
